Biniyam Melesse, Ph.D., MPH
Dr. Biniyam B. Melesse, President and a member of the Board of Directors, received his B.A. in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and Political Science from Wittenberg University, Master of Public Health in Environmental Health and Epidemiology from the University of Illinois, and a Ph.D., in Community Health from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. He is currently an Assistant Professor of Health Sciences at Western Illinois University. He began his international career in the rural communities of Ethiopia through various volunteer works. Over the years, he has volunteered with Physicians for Human Rights of Israel in Tel Aviv, Mercy Corps in the U.S., Save Darfur movement, and Habitat for Humanity through high school and college. His public health experience working at the local and state health departments and international volunteer experiences were eye-opening as to how people navigate health disparity in rural communities. Dr. Biniyam, along with his childhood friends, Tibebu, Samson, and Muzekir, founded Hope in Every Community with the resolve to change the outcomes of health and opportunity for the people in rural communities of Ethiopia where he was born and grew up. As a President, Dr. Biniyam's goal is to grow the organization to achieve its full potential by reaching out to every group of people that have a shared interest in building rural communities as a foundation of a meaningful change of course for health disparity.
Tibebu Mendado
Tibebu Mendado, Vice-President and a member of the Board of Directors, has a passion and experience serving vulnerable and marginalized rural communities in Ethiopia from his time serving as director of the Agricultural Office in Southern Ethiopia. Having spent most of his adult life living in rural Ethiopia, Tibebu has traveled extensively in Southern Ethiopia, where poverty at every level kept communities from reaching their full potential. He brings a truly global point of view to his work at Hope in Every Community. He has earned his B.A. from Hawassa University Ethiopia and currently works full time as a software developer in Washington, D.C.
Samson Anjulo, a lifelong Ethiopian resident, graduated from Jimma University with a bachelor's degree in Statistics. Following graduation, he worked extensively in rural communities of Southern Ethiopia as the only statistician for the region. As he traveled extensively to the remote areas of Ethiopia through his work, he realized that poverty in every community is the leading disruptor of that community's foundation. Samson joined Hope in Every Community as a secretary and a member of the Board of directors. He works full-time as an electrical technician in Chicago.
